Why Refurbish Your Alloys
Damaged alloy wheels not only affect a car’s appearance, but also performance. You may feel your alloys are ‘good enough’ or that repairs might be too costly to justify. In reality, even minor damage to your wheels can end up more costly in the long run.
Smaller scuffs, scratches and marks not only look unattractive but can lead to oxidation causing pitting and corrosion.
If cracks and bents are left uncorrected, they can cause uneven tyre wear, extra heat and pressure. This will result in wheel vibrations putting further pressure on your car and affecting steering and suspension systems.
Smarties Car Hire begins every job, by assessing any damage and providing you with a full wheel diagnostic.
The Process of Alloy Wheel Refurbishment
The entire refurbishment will be carried out by one of our highly qualified staff. A typical process involves:
- ERemoving the wheel or wheels from your vehicle. After this we take off the tyres, clean, then strip the existing finish and corrosion. The wheel will be blasted to remove the final remnants of the finish.
- ENow that the alloys are fully prepped for the ultimate adhesion of the new finish, damage can be assessed for repair.
- ERepairs to scuffs, marks, scratches or dents and gashes are then performed. The method of repair depending on the severity of the damage.
- EThe wheel is then smoothed and primed and a base coat applied.
- EThe wheels are painted or powder coated utilising the latest adhesion technology. The process needs to be even and fast to avoid running and blending issues. All our paints and powders are manufacturer-approved and colour matched.
